Introduction

IACITS-2007, the third Indo-Australian Conference on Information Technology Security, will bring together leaders from both countries to examine these vital factors, from legal frameworks to security technology, particularly from a national policy development perspective.

Synopsis

In healthcare, banking and finance, transport, government services and numerous other enterprises, the move towards a service oriented architecture, mainly through the use of the web services paradigm, for the creation and maintenance of ICT systems is accelerating. Moreover, those enterprises are often the ones responsible for the reliable operation and protection of the critical infrastructures of a nation, from power and energy supply to transport to telecommunications and many other areas.

However, this movement has important information systems security and assurance challenges at all levels. From the management of large-scale, terabyte store information servers in government to the safety of citizens connecting into a national information grid via commodity level PCs at home or in the office, to the acceptance of the risks involved in the rapid move to information service access via mobile, wireless-connected portable units, the imperative to incorporate next generation ICT security functionality and verification is clearly evident. The move to eServices needs to be examined against the need for higher levels of trust by the populace in the information systems used for critical activities.
