Computer Security Day 2003 (Brisbane)

Computer Security Day is an international event to raise the awareness of computer security issues. This day has been marked in 100s of cities world wide since the program was initiated by the ACM in the late 1980s.

Speaker Biographies:
Tim Cook

Tim Cook is the Manager IT Security with Suncorp, an allfinanz institution that is Australia's 6th largest bank and 2nd largest insurance company. He has had many years of IT security experience in the government, financial and industrial sectors. Tim's professional expertise is in the areas of IT security policy and management, IT risk management and disaster recovery.

Kathryn Kerr

Kathryn Kerr is Manager, Analysis and Assessments for AusCERT and works closely with AusCERT's coordination centre team to develop AusCERT's analytical and assessment products and capabilities. She was primarily responsible for AusCERT's contribution to the 2002 and 2003 Australian Computer Crime and Security Surveys.

She took up the position in July 2001 after 12 years with the Commonwealth government in Canberra in various analytical security positions, including in the area of critical information infrastructure protection.

Ross Hallinan

Ross Hallinan is currently a Principal Project Manager in the Security Planning and Coordination Unit within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Ross is responsible for the Critical Infrastructure Protection Project. This project assists the operators of critical infrastructure to conduct risk assessments and to enhance their security, emergency response and business continuity arrangements against potential terrorist incidents.

Ross has previously worked as a Principal Project Manager in the Department of Emergency Services. He has also worked as a senior planning and operations manager in a variety of roles for the Defence Department both in Australia and overseas. Ross has a Masters of Management Economics and a Graduate Diploma of Information Science.

Mick Eaton

Mick started his working life as an Army apprentice and in 1984 after 20 years in the military, he joined the Department of Defence as an electronics engineer.

Mick commenced a career in technical security with Defence Security Branch in March 1987. In this role he developed his skills as an information systems security generalist, providing advice, assessments and developing policies and standards across a diverse range of environments for clients in Defence and in Defence industry.

Mick joined Boeing Australia Limited in September 1998 as their National Security Manager. In this role he has functional responsibility for security across the organisation.

Over his sixteen year security journey Mick has managed to obtain a Graduate Diploma in Security Science from Edith Curtin University and the CPP and CISSP certifications.
